BOERHAAVE, Hermann (Hermannus)
(1668–1738)
   Profes sor of medicine, botany, and chemistry at Leiden University. Boer haave was famous for his clinical skills. He reorganized the academic training in medicine, and his lectures attracted many students from abroad. Among his numerous publications should be mentioned an index to the Leiden botanical garden, containing the description of several thousand plants, and the famous Institutiones medicae (1708), reprinted 15 times and translated into many languages.
